Trees or Forest? Find Your Focus. Kim Flores (c) 2014

The forest or the trees?

Where are you right now?

In this moment?

Perhaps in this moment you are reading this blog looking for a little insight or encouragement. Maybe you could use some direction. Or maybe you are just waiting for your coffee to kick in and help you be more productive. It’s all a matter of time and focus.

The challenge we face every moment is that we have at least a trillion things we should be doing and then we multiply that by the things we would like to be doing. I’m not a math genius, but that’s enough to drive even the sanest person into the forest of insanity.

So how do we handle all the information that pulls for our attention? This is where the Universe turns strange. We handle all the flow of information by not handling it…

What the what?!!!

I know. I know. Just pick a tree and hang out with me. If you have a million things being thrown at you, you can’t catch them all. And you shouldn’t even try unless you do want to drive yourself mad. In that case, buckle up. But for the rest of us, the best way to handle everything coming at us is to only focus in on what you really want to spend time with or give your life energy to.

This means being intentional.

What do you want your life to be about?

Who do you want to spend time with?

How can you create more time doing the things you love or spending time with the people that you love?

You can start by focusing on the most important areas in your life. Then throw out of focus the things that seem harmless at first glance but in reality crowd out the vision of the amazing life you want to live.

For example, I have many clients who are looking to create a new business or find a new partner. Now, they can do all the wishing and hoping they want, but if they don’t take consistent steps to move in that direction, they will never get where they want to go. What takes them off the path is that their vision is out of focus. They use distractions such as doubt, fear, thoughts of past failures, and the paralysis of analysis. After a while they are so used to seeing all that they don’t want that they end up forgetting what they were looking for in the first place.

So how do we focus in on our desires?

I’m glad you asked.

Create the Vision

You MUST get a clear picture of the area of your life that you would like to change. Perhaps it’s getting into shape or going for a new job or finding love.

Create the Clearing

You MUST reflect on what is holding you back. What is the story or belief you are telling yourself that says you can’t have it? What obstacles or time wasters are you putting in your way?

Create the Focus.

Why do you want this? What is your why? What will your life be like if you don’t have this? Or do that? What will your life be like if you do get what you want? How would it feel?

Next, take a step in that direction. Then step again, And again. Until things come into view. How long it will take and what you will have to risk will vary. But each intentional step will be worth it because it’s your vision manifested into your creative expression called life.

And that’s something worth intentionally focusing on. Peace.
